halon 1301 and halon 2402, halon recyclingHalons are low-toxicity, chemically stable compounds that are used in fire protection applications. As long as halons remain contained/banked in cylinders they are easily recyclable for reuse. The two types of halons that HBS deals with are halon 1211, a liquid steaming agent that is used in portable halon fire extinguishers, and halon 2402 and halon 1301, a gaseous agent that is used in fixed total flooding systems.

The benefits of using halons are that they do not leave liquid or solid residues when discharged, therefore they are preferred for sensitive areas, such as computer rooms and data storage areas. They also can be used in the presence of humans, which is important in closed areas such as aircraft, boats and armored fighting vehicles.

Halons have an extremely high ozone depleting potential (three to ten times more than CFCs) and its intended use results in its release into the environment.

HBS and its affiliates have the ability to professionally remove your existing system cylinders, check and verify cylinders to code, refill properly, and re-install into your system. No need to have your system handled by non-professionals or incur costly shipping charges. Reduce system downtime.

HBS securely stores halon to ASTM Standards to prevent accidental release to the atmosphere. After reclaiming, HBS recycles to ASTM standards and the requirements of the end users.

HBS is committed to "responsible halon management" and stringently complies with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Guidance for the EPA halon Emission Reduction Rule (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart H). All work is conducted in strict accordance with the Montreal Protocol Treaty and the U.S. Clean Air Act as amended in 1990.
